Everybody know that English can be used in every continent in the world. Thus, it is considered as universal language. Therefore, many people use this language in many varieties of dialect. There are several kinds of English dialect: British English, American English, Australian English, and Caribbean English.

British English is the broad term used to distinguish the forms of the English language used in United Kingdom. Dialect and accents vary between the four countries in the United Kingdom. The major division are normally classified as English English (or English as spoken in England), Welsh English, and Scottish English.

A set of dialect of the English Language used mostly in the United States is called American English. The use of English in United States was inherited from British colonization. Furthermore, there are several differences between British English dialect at the levels of phonology, phonetics, and vocabulary. For example, American English uses “color” rather than “colour”, or “center” for “centre”.

Australian English is the form of English spoken in Australia. It began spreading after British convicts sent to Australia. There are no strong variations in accent and pronunciation across different state and territories. Words such as “dance” and “grant” are usually heard with the older pronunciation of these words, using [æ], whereas in South Australia, [aː] is more common.

Caribbean English is a broad term for the dialects of the English language spoken in the Caribbean. Caribbean English is influenced by the English-based Creole varieties spoken. In the Caribbean, there is a great deal of variation in the way English is spoken. Scholars generally agree that although the dialects themselves vary significantly in each of these countries, they all have roots in 17th-century English and African languages.

As you can see, there are many varieties of English dialects. One of the most causes of the differences is region. Different region has different tongue to produce English sound. However, media like television is very affected in the spreading of these dialects. The major dialect which is spread in common media will dominate the usage of the dialect.
